I hope this finds you well in the midst of this crazy COVID world we all find ourselves in!
Usually, we’re popping up at Pepper Place and other events this time of year, but like so many other local businesses, we’re unable to do that in this season. But we are planning a curbside pick-up pop-up for Saturday, May 16!
HOW THIS WORKS:
Click here to place your order, and we’ll have your order available for curbside pick-up on Saturday, May 16, from 8am-noon at Baba Java Coffee in Hoover (4730 Chace Cir.). So you can also pick up a latte, coffee beans, or some yummy treats while you’re picking up your books!
WHY DOWN IN THE HAM?
If you’re looking for a fun activity to do with the fam, Down in the Ham (our children’s book) includes a scavenger hunt and makes a great way to spend a socially distant sunshiney day in the Magic City!
We recommend that you begin at Vulcan Park & Museum, and read the book’s first couple of pages there and take a walk around the grounds. The first part of the book contains a history of the city narrated by Vulcan himself, then he proceeds to give you a tour of Birmingham.
From Vulcan, follow Richard Arrington, Jr. Blvd North, stopping off in 5 Points to pick up reading the book while in front of The Storyteller Fountain (and doing the counting activity mentioned in the book) then walking around the corner to Quinlan Castle. Drive and follow the boulevard all the way to Uptown, stopping along the way to read the next page, take a pic at one of our favorite murals, or to grab something yummy to eat/drink. The end of the book also contains a map and key to 20 murals/signs downtown that you can do a picture scavenger hunt with.
Our coloring books provide a way to color the sites that you visit. (We even have one couple that uses it as a date guide, and they’ve colored a page after going on a date to each place.) Color the Ham focuses primarily on the downtown area, and Around the Ham goes clock-wise around the city, focusing on Birmingham’s suburbs.
So if you’re looking for a fun way to spend a day outside with the kiddos, use our books as a guide and source of educational entertainment for your family!
