This is the week! After more than a year of working on this project, we are only days away from our book release!
Abby Little and I (Ashley Chesnut) invite you to celebrate with us at our Book Launch Bash THIS Saturday, June 10, from 5-9 p.m. at Urban Standard where you will have your first opportunity to purchase a copy of Down in the Ham: A Child’s Guide to Downtown Birmingham as well as Color the Ham: A Down in the Ham Coloring Book.
At the Book Launch Bash, we’ll have a couple of friends popping up with us. So you’ll be able to shop from Newly Scripted and Essie Frances as well as purchase coffee, chai, and tasty treats at Urban Standard. Since that night is also Symphony in the Summer at Railroad Park, why don’t you stop by our Book Launch Bash, grab dinner or dessert at Urban Standard, then head to Railroad Park to hear the Alabama Symphony Orchestra (which starts at 8 p.m.)?
While you can just drop in anytime between 5-9 p.m. for the Book Launch Bash, Abby and I will share a little bit about how the book came to be, and I’ll read the story to everyone around 6 p.m.
Also, you can join us at the following events this summer:
- Civil Right Institute’s Community of Readers Event (Saturday, June 17, at 11 a.m.)
- The Church at Brook Hills Newcomer Connection (Wednesday, June 21)
- Pepper Place Market (Saturdays, 7 a.m. – noon)

- July 29
- August 12
- September 2
- October 21
- Ross Bridge Farmers Market (Fridays, 4-8 p.m.)
- June 23
- July 7
- July 21
- August 18
We’re also in the process of talking with various shops and bookstores in the city about selling Down in the Ham, but Briarwood Bookstore will have both the book and the coloring book in their store starting Monday, June 12. So if you miss the Book Launch Bash, you’ll be able to get the book there as well as on Amazon.
Thanks so much to all of you who have joined us in this journey! We have so appreciated your encouragement, enthusiasm, and prayers, and we hope to see you at the Book Launch Bash!
